Estrenando tableta! - My new tablet!

Ahora si, después de mucho mucho tiempo - años diría yo - al fin estoy estrenando una tableta con sensibilidad a la presión de la pluma y estoy muy feliz :)
Ya tenía una tableta muy sencillita, pero no tenia sensibilidad de presión, así que realmente era como usar un mouse diminuto.
Y ahora no se como usar la tableta nueva, pero se que tengo mucho que aprender y muchas posibilidades, el hecho de poder dibujar con más libertad me pone muy feliz.
Esta es mi primera prueba, un bebé cheeta que copié de una postal que tengo aqui a mi lado.
Bueno, eso es todo por el momento.

Now if, after long long time - years I would say - I'm finally have a tablet with pen's pressure sensitivity and I'm very happy :)
I had a very cheap tablet, with not pressure sensitivity, so it really was like using a tiny mouse.
Now i don't know how to use the new tablet, but I have a lot to learn and many possibilities, being able to draw more freely makes me very happy.
This is my first test, a baby cheeta I copied from a postcard that I have here with me.

Algo que me gustaría:
y lo primero que me vino a la mente fue la canción de Barney jejeje, creo que ya estoy muy cansada y por eso mi mente desvaría.
Por cierto, he usado mis Tombo Dual brush pens para los tonos grises, y acabo de estrenar unas nuevas brush pen muy económicas que ha lanzado Bic, "que no sabe fallar", se llaman Conté Visaquarelle y son un buen sustituto de las Copic, que por cierto no he conseguido en México.
Ventaja: son baratas y accesibles, éstas me las consiguió mi novio en la Mega.
Desventaja: colores limitados.

Something i'd like:
The first i though was Barney's song (you know, the purple dinosaur)... this have no sense in english, but it does in spanish :)
I've used my Tombo Dual brush pens for grayscale and Conté Visaquarelle for colors, this is a new product by Bic and i think is a good substitute for the Copic markers that are difficult to find in México. The only disadvantage i see, is the limited colors they have.

Me acaba de llegar mi nuevo disco duro, y aunque no lo crean es la primera vez que tengo uno jajaja, seguía respaldando todo a la antigüita, en CD's y DVD's, así que estoy muy contenta. Tiene forma de libretita y trae stickers de letras para personalizarlo.

I just receive my external hard drive, and believe it or not, it's the very first time i have one. I used to make my backups in CD's and DVD's, until now, of course, and i'm very happy with this. It's notebook shaped and have stickers to personalize it.

Comic: Archie
Esta ilustración fue muy fácil de decidir, pues viví rodeada de Archie toda mi infancia y adolescencia, tenía miles y miles de revistas de Archie en mi recámara. Todos los domingos desde que tengo memoria, esperaba con ansias a que mis papás nos llevaran a la revistería (¿existe esa palabra?) para gastarme lo que nos daban de "domingo"; me compraba la revista y algún dulce.
 
No quise usar ninguna imagen de referencia, sino que hice la ilustración dejando que mi pequeña memoria me guiara en los trazos y creo que quedó bastante parecido al original :)

Comic: Archie
This illustration was very easy to decide, since I lived surrounded by Archie throughout my childhood and adolescence, had thousands and thousands of Archie magazines in my bedroom. Every Sunday since I have memory, i was looking forward to my parents to take us to the magazine shop (i don't know the english name for this) and spend my money in the magazine and some candy.

I did not use any reference image, instead I did the illustration letting my memory to guide my traces, and I think the result is pretty close to the original :)

Cuando dejé mi hogar de toda la vida en Chiapas para mudarme al Caribe buscando mejores oportunidades de trabajo. Me costó mucho separarme de mi familia y demás seres queridos, pero este cambio de aires también me ha traido muchas alegrías :)

Mi novio dice que soy una mezcla rara entre china y mexicana; siempre se me forma un flequillo en forma de "S" en la frente, por más que lo peine y le ponga gel; me gusta el color morado y siempre, siempre tengo antojo de una Paleta Payaso :D

Goliat (mi perrito) me pide que lo saque al parque a hacer pipí. Nos damos un paseo de 15 o 20 minutos, donde se vuelve feliz regando plantitas y después regresamos al depa.
Yo me vuelvo a tirar en la cama en lo que se calienta el agua de la ducha, y Goliat se queda como esfinge viéndonos desde la puerta de la recámara :D

Goliat (my little dog) asks me to take him to the park to pee. We take a walk of 15 or 20 minutes, and he is so happy watering all kind of plants, and then we returned to the apartment. I go back to the bed while I wait the shower's water heats and Goliath stays as a sphinx staring at us from the bedroom's door :D

Ya son muchos días sin dibujar, entre el trabajo y otras cosas, no me había tomado el tiempo de dedicarme a esto. Aqui les dejo algunos bocetos que he hecho en mis salidas a tomar café en la 5a. avenida, incluso ahi está mi novio con su cara de "concentrancia". Y si, mi cuadernito de dibujo tiene florecitas rosas jejeje.

Hace algunos meses, encontré en youtube a un ilustrador que me parece genial: Mark Crilley. Lo mejor de todo es que encontré uno de los tantos tutoriales que sube a youtube y donde explica paso a paso como dibujar manga, por algo lo llaman el Gurú del Manga en youtube. Aún si no eres seguidor de este estilo de dibujo (como yo) me parece una guía que cualquiera puede seguir, yo, por ejemplo, no me imagino dibujando mucho manga en el futuro, pero este libro si que me ayuda a rectificar cosas técnicas que siempre se me van de la mano.

Few months ago, I found an illustrator at youtube I think it's great: Mark Crilley. Best of all is that I found one of his many tutorials where it's explaining step by step how to draw manga, people call him the Manga's Guru on youtube. Even if you're not into this style of drawing (like me), I found it as a guide that anyone can follow, I, for example, I can not imagine myself drawing a lot of manga in the future, but this book can help me to rectify technical things that I always found difficult to do.


En Mastering Manga, podemos encontrar desde los pasos básicos para dibujar una figura humana, hasta una pequeña guía para crear viñetas de cómic. Aunque muchos de los ejercicios vienen con una explicación paso a paso, algunas páginas vienen con varios ejemplos que se pueden usar como guía para hacer poses, manos, rostros, etc. sin necesidad de seguir "un paso a paso".

Si están interesados en comprar este libro, lo venden en Amazon, a mí, por suerte me lo han regalado :D y lo encuentro altamente recomendable. En mi opinión, si quieren reforzar los ejercicios del libro, pueden recurrir a los tutoriales en youtube, solo tienen que buscar a Mark Crilley.

Bueno, espero que este comentario les sirva de ayuda e inspiración.

In Mastering Manga, we can find the basic steps to draw a human figure, even a small guide to create comic strips. Although many of the exercises come with a step by step explanation, some pages come with several examples that can be used as a guide for poses, hands, faces, etc... without having to follow a "step by step."

If you are interested in buying this book, you can get it on Amazon, fortunately i got this as a gift :D and I find it highly recommended. In my opinion, if they want to reinforce the exercises in the book, can use the tutorials on youtube, just have to look for Mark Crilley.

La combi y yo

Y esta soy yo, a las 8:30 de la mañana, tratando de no dormirme en el camino al trabajo, cosa fácil si el chofer pone sus éxitos de último momento a todo volúmen, alguna canción mala de hip-hop, reguetón o banda (muero jejeje); y agarrándome hasta con las uñas del banquito tembeleque para no salir volando y dejar mi linda cara embarrada en el piso con tanto enfrenón y arrancón de la buena combi.

Por eso y muchas razones más, soy la mujer más feliz del mundo cuando logro gritar "¡BAJAAAAANN! y salgo despavorida para caminar las 3 cuadras que faltan para llegar a mi oficina o a mi casa :D.

And this is me at 8:30 in the morning, trying not to fall asleep on the way to work, something easy if the driver plays the last hits on the radio out loud, a bad hiphop, reggaeton or banda song, and grabbing with my fingernails to the shaky bench. I really don't wanna fly out of my spot with all the bad driving we suffer in the VW bus.

 For that and many other reasons, I am the happiest woman in the world when I can yell "BAJAAAAANN! (stop the bus!) and get out the bus to walk the 3 blocks to get to my office or my home :D.

Cabalgando en un cepillo de dientes

Y aqui está el boceto de hace unos días a color, inpirada en la frase que me dijo mi novio: "cabalgando en un cepillo de dientes manco". Como los cepillos no tienen brazos o manos, simplemente le rompí una parte del mango. Esta vez me decidí a usar una paleta de colores suaves y por si lo preguntan, la chica de la ilustración no soy yo.

And here is, the sketch from some days ago with color now, inspired in the quote my BF said: "riding on a one-handed toothbrush". As the brushes don't have hands or arms, i just broke its handle. This time i decided to use a soft palette of colors and if you ask, the girl in the picture is not me.

Desempolvando el baúl: Óleos y tintas

Siguiendo con los archivos que encontré en mis respaldos, aqui tengo dos óleos. El primero fue un ejercicio de la universidad, teníamos que copiar un cuadro, y yo me decidí por copiar "Al Agua" de Sorolla, me encantaba el manejo de la luz y los colores, algo que yo hice pero no con mucha maestría :P.  El segundo cuadro lo pinté en ratos libres en mi casa, más que nada para darle uso a los óleos que había comprado y use como referencia una foto de la cual desconozco el autor, pero que estaba en un libro que tenía mi papá.

Continuing with the files I found in my backups, I have two oil paintings here. The first one was an exercise in college, we had to copy a painting, so I decided to copy "Al Agua" by Sorolla, I loved the handling of light and colors, something I tried to do but obviusly i couldn't :P . The second one, I painted in my spare time at home, in order to use the oils that had purchased and using as reference a picture i found in a book that my dad had.



Y estas dos ilustraciones también fueron ejercicios de la universidad, sacados de recortes de revista: un reloj de algún anuncio, que hice con tinta china; y un banco de peces nadando sobre corales que hice con plumas de colores y mucha mucha paciencia. Estas dos ilustraciones me llevaron mucho tiempo y tienen muchísimo detalle, pero como en mis otros trabajos de universidad, mis fotografías no ayudan mucho y es una lástima.
Bueno, espero que les guste esta pequeña galería, saludillos!

And these two illustrations were also made in college, taken from magazine clippings: a watch from some ad that I made with India ink, and a shoal of fish swimming over coral that I made with colored pens and a lot of patience. These two pictures took a lot of time and they have great detail, but as in my other college work, my pics are not good and that's a shame.
